Forget hand holding it, use a tripod. Also because this is a 2X extender, you're losing a LOT of light. With my Canon 300mm 2.8, with the 2.0 mk III I'm now shooting at aperture of f/5.6. You're also losing a LOT of autofocus speeds. Canon is saying as much as 75%, but it didn't feel that high.

I'd say the 2x exceeded my expectations, but maybe that's because I was comparing it in my head to my DSLR with the EF 2x III extenders, which just weren't all that great. Completely agree though, the 100-500 alone is a great versatile lens. Add the 1.4x and it narrows the ability a bit, add the 2x and it narrows even more.

R5 with EF 100-400 is ii and 2x extender. Did a quick test with this setup today and was happy with the results. EF 100-400 is ii and 2x multiplier, tested just at 800mm. A few things I noticed. If it’s on a tripod and IS is on it will blur the picture.
A few things may not work as you expect, however. First, you can’t use the extender with all your lenses. As of this writing, you can only use it with six Canon RF lenses: the RF100–500mm F4.5–7.1 L IS USM, the RF100–400mm F5.6–8 IS USM, the RF600mm F11 IS STM, the RF800mm F11 IS STM, the RF400mm F2.8 L IS, and the RF600mm F4 L IS.

The Canon EF 2x III Extender mounts between your Canon EOS Digital SLR and a compatible lens (primarily Canon L Series lenses), extending the focal length of the lens by a very noticeable 2x.
They all look so good, it makes me wonder how the lens would do with the Extender 2x III and the internal 1.4x engaged. For one thing, regardless about how one feels about AA filters in general, for 7D2/70D/80D/5Ds(r) size pixels, an AA filter is not necessary, so the 5Dsr is the best for this, detail-wise.
