Bonjour from France, In the last few months the stop-start system on my May 2016 1.4TSI has stopped working (i.e. the engine keeps going) except immediately after a longish (30 km or more) run. This saves me remembering to switch the stop/start off - a good point - but has me wondering why.
Sounds to me that you are suffering from sticking vanes in the variable vane turbo. When this happens, usually when accelerating under load, the resulting overboost puts the car into what feels like a semi limp mode. Turning the ignition off and on resets the protection. Usually no faults show up on a diagnostics reader and no dash warning light.

The recall was done for free by Skoda The mechatronics was partially covered by a warranty from the garage I bought the car from, however the warranty limit was £1000 and the dealer would only cover part of the excess, I was about £300 out of pocket after only having the car for 3 months. I have had all of the work done by Skoda though.

My Superb indicates a consumption of 0.6-0.7 litres per hour when idling. It's barely anything. In fact, it's needed to keep the engine warm. If the engine cools down, start-stop will not function anyway. If start-stop turns the engine off, the electronics will be running off the battery. It also takes power to restart the engine.

Am avut aceasta motorizare si pe Octavia 2FL si pe Octavia 3(2016),ambele conduse de la 0 km. Cu prima masina am facut peste 130000 de km,iar cu a 2-ua(cutie DSG) 100000. Contrar a ceea ce spun unii pe aici,motorul si-a facut treaba cu brio,nici vorba de egr-uri infundate sau injectoare cu probleme!

Secondly after much much internet searching I’ve found the following. Halfrauds do a ”Yuasa” EFB battery for £97 but I’m unsure whether the car takes EFB or AGM batteries.

I have suspected injector failure on my 2010 Octavia 1.6 TDI (105,000 miles). The car chugs and has a lumpy idle 80% of the time. It cut out on me a couple of times at low speed. Sounds very "clackety" in the 1000-1500ish rev range. However, it is not showing any codes on an OBD2 reader.
Askew. My Octavia start/stop battery has died down, so I had purchased an Excide AGM (EK700) battery and have got it replaced at a local garage (due to no availability of my usual garage). While I was watching mechanic carry out battery replacement, he simply replaced the old battery with a new one.
